Damiana Runcio

I joined the Capuchinos de Taboga research group in October 2025, moving from Italy after completing my Master’s degree at the University of Florence. My background began with an ecological focus on birds and bats, and later expanded into cognitive research on social learning in parrots for my Master’s thesis, during which I spent a year at the Max Planck Institute of Biological Intelligence. I am particularly interested in comparative cognition and in how behavioral adaptations intersect with ecological and environmental challenges.

Within the research group, I focus on collecting and processing vocalization data and conducting cognitive experiments. I also contribute to the daily collection of behavioral data, GPS tracking, and biological samples, supporting the maintenance of life history records.

Outside the field, you’ll usually find me juggling, taking care of my kefir, or getting lost in a good book. Whenever I get the chance, I enjoy slacklining, hiking, and exploring new places—especially when it means being in the water or in the middle of a folkloristic event.
