On July 2, 2026, 35 children from the La Gotera and Paso Lajas schools visited the Taboga Experimental Farm—run by the National Technical University (UTN)—for the Annual Environmental Gathering. The event was organized with the assistance of personnel from the UTN, the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC), the Taboga Sugar Mill, the Red Cross, and the Taboga Capuchin Monkey Project. This gathering aims to raise awareness among children about ecology, conservation, and the responsible use of resources.

As part of the event, students participated in games and activities organized into four stations: 1) identifying skulls of animals found in the forest reserve, 2) an insect hunt, 3) birdwatching, and 4) animal puppet shows—developed jointly by SINAC and the University of Costa Rica’s drama department—focusing on themes of conservation and respect for the forest.

The children had the opportunity to ask questions, share stories, and enjoy a unique morning with their classmates, which included a snack and a highly anticipated visit from Toño Pizote (the SINAC mascot). This activity is part of the various stakeholders’ efforts to make a positive impact on the community.
